Kevin Millwood was released by Pawtucket over the weekend, and was quickly snapped up by the Rockies, who he made his first start for tonight. Millwood took the loss (0-1), but he went seven strong innings, giving up just three earned. I'm not sure that the former Braves/Phillies/Indians/Rangers/Orioles starter has much left in the tank, but it's something to think about as resident-dunce John Lackey and glass-armed Erik Bedard battle it out for the third spot in the rotation in Clay Buchholz's absence.
Apparently, Theo Epstein & Co. didn't see Millwood competing for a job on the major league level, so he asked for his release. The 15-year veteran was 6-2 with a 4.68 ERA in 15 starts with the PawSox.
